-? -   Bandwidth

Bandwidth: The amount of information that can be transmitted in any given time over a network medium.

-? -   Encrypt / Encryption

Encrypt / Encryption: To turn something into a secret code; the key to the code must be known in order to access the information.

Firewall: a device that's supposed to prevent unauthorized access to or from certain networks; can either be in software or hardware.

Gateway: A location on a network that serves to open access to another network

HTTP protocol: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol, protocol that serves as the foundation for the entire world wide web. Tells web servers and browsers how they are to interact and how respond to various instructions.

-? -   IP:  Internet protocol

IP: Internet protocol, specifies the format of information and the framework through which it can be transmitted. Usually used in conjunction with the more comprehensive TCP (while IP allows for the sending out of data, TCP is what actually directs it to where it has two go and connects computers to enable their communication)

LAN: local area network, refers to a group of computers that are in close proximity with one another on a local network.

-? -   Node

Node: any device that is connected to a computer network, like a cell phone or a computer.

-? -   Protocol

Protocol: refers to the traditional structure of data communicated between two devices; dictated either in the hard or soft drive (computers that have differing protocols may not be able to communicate).

Router: located at the intersection between two or more networks, it's the physical medium that sends information along the networks.

SPAM EMAIL: Unsolicited electronic junk mail.

SSL: secure sockets layer, a protocol developed by Netscape "WEB SITE" and used to encrypt and transmit personal information on the Internet.

TCP / IP: transmission control protocol, allows for computers to connect with other and transmit data on the Internet and LANs.

URL: uniform resource locator, the address of a certain document on the web, example: www.yahoo.com.
